I will first want to show you the procedure on how to conduct compaction or field density tests on site. By the way, the consultant representative or the quality engineer shall select the area to be tested and shall mark it on the drawing.<\/p>\n<p>There are many ways to determine the compaction of soil but here I used <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/34249809\/TITLE_DETERMINATION_OF_DRY_DENSITY_PF_SOIL_BY_SAND_REPLACEMENT_METHOD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sand Replacement Method<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>which we are using on our site. Sample container (plastic bag or plastic container)<\/td><td class=\"column-2\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<!-- #tablepress-INSITUEQPT from cache -->\n<p>Here is the procedure on how to do the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/environment.uwe.ac.uk\/geocal\/SoilMech\/compaction\/compaction.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Compaction<\/a> test<\/span> or <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">In-Situ Density test<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1. Place the metal tray<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The technician can now place the metal tray as per the Consultant or Quality Engineer&#8217;s preferred location. Digging the soil<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A helper will start to dig the soil by a using pointed steel rod (250mm long 16 &#8211; 20 mm dia.) and a hammer. The head of the rod shall be stricken at slow speed and at conditional pressure. Use gloves for hand protection to prevent hand injury.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qualityengineersguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Digging-the-soil.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1250\" src=\"data:image\/gif,GIF89a%01%00%01%00%80%00%00%00%00%00%FF%FF%FF%21%F9%04%01%00%00%00%00%2C%00%00%00%00%01%00%01%00%00%02%01D%00%3B\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/www.qualityengineersguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Digging-the-soil-300x250.png\" alt=\"Digging the soil\" width=\"600\" height=\"500\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>4. Putting the loose soil in the sample container <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The dug loose soil shall be placed in the sample container, make sure there are no any pieces of soil shall be wasted otherwise, it will affect the results of compaction.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.qualityengineersguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/taking-the-soil.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1251\" src=\"data:image\/gif,GIF89a%01%00%01%00%80%00%00%00%00%00%FF%FF%FF%21%F9%04%01%00%00%00%00%2C%00%00%00%00%01%00%01%00%00%02%01D%00%3B\" data-layzr=\"https:\/\/www.qualityengineersguide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/taking-the-soil-300x250.png\" alt=\"taking the soil\" width=\"600\" height=\"500\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>5. Measuring the depth of the hole<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>While the digging progresses, monitor the depth of the hole by measuring a ruler, make sure that the depth is 200 mm or 150 mm depending on the requirement of the specification. Pouring silica in the hole <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once the hole is properly shaped to the diameter of 200 mm just the same diameter that of the hole of the metal tray and the depth has reached. Place the pouring cylinder onto the metal tray.
